24 Parganas South is a district located in West Bengal, India. The district lies 71.2 km from Howrah, 65.4 km from 24 Parganas North and 112 km from Purba Medinipur. It consists of many important towns such as Behala, Jabadpur, Bhangar, Kasba, Sonapur, Baruipur, Port Canning, Basanti, Kulpi, Kultali, Mathurapur, Kakdwip, Pathar Pratima, Namkhana and Sagar. Legend says that this district was once the capital of Raja Bikramaditya and Maharaja Pratapaditya. There are many historical tourist places located in the proximity of the district, including Jashoreswari Kali Temple, Chanda Bhairab Mandir, Five-Doomed Tenga Mosque, Hammankhana, Govinda Dev Temple and Jahajghata Port. Famous landmarks of the district are Kapil Muni Temple, BakKhali & Frasergunj, Sundarbans National Park, Holiday Island, Lothian Island, Narendrapur and Sajnekhali.
