Bagh Bazar is a neighbourhood located in north Kolkata, India. It is part of the Shyampukur assembly constituency and the Kolkata Uttar Lok Sabha constituency. The name is derived from two words, Bagh (meaning flower garden) and Bazaar (meaning market). The first public Durga Puja in Kolkatta was conducted in this locality. One of the oldest streets of Bagh Bazar is the Haralal Mitra Street where the annual “Haralal Athletic Club” is held. Durgacharan Mukherjee Street, Bagbazar Ghat, Maayer Ghat are some of the important places of the locality. Shyambazar Metro Station as well as the Kolkata Circular Railway Station provides good connectivity to the locality. Rabindra Sarani Road, Bagbazar Street, Girish Avenue are some of the main roads located in the proximity of the neighbourhood. Bagh Bazar is famous for its strong cultural backgrounds and was home to many famous personalities like Nagendranath Basu, Mohanchand Basu, and Bhola Maira. Girish Mancha Auditorium, Paschim Banga Jatra Akademi, Bagbazar Reading Library are some of the prominent places in the locality.
