Bowbazar is a neighbourhood and police station located in central Kolkata, India. The Bow Bazar Street is now renamed after revolutionary leader, Bepin Behari Ganguly. Bowbazar is located about 8.4 km from South Dum Dum, 9.3 km from Baranagar and 17.6 km from Maheshtala. The Lenin Sarai Road, Sealdah Flyover, BB Ganguly Street and Bentick Street connect to this neighbourhood. The Howrah Railway Station is about 24 km and it plays a major role in transportation. The Bowbazar market is famous for its gold and silver ornament collections. It has a red light area where about 1500 to 2000 sex workers work daily and the area surrounding this is filled with slum dwellers, truckers and migrant labourers.
