Maidan, also known as Brigade Parade Ground, is the largest urban park located in Kolkata, India. The Raj Bhavan from the north, National Library from the south, Hoogly River from the west and Victoria Memorial from the east surround the boundaries of the Maidan. Bus services, autos, trains and metro trains make it easy for the commuters to reach the Maidan. The Maidan, which is a property of the Indian Army, is home to the Fort William that hosts the Eastern zone high command of the Indian Army. The Eden Gardens Cricket Stadium, Kolkata Race Course and several football grounds are situated in the proximity of the Maidan. It is also referred to as “Lungs of Kolkata” due its lush green landscapes. The place is famous for its architectural statues and monuments of renowned personalities, including of Lord Curzon, Mahatma Gandhi, Ram Mohan Roy, Chittaranjan Das, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose, Aurobindo, Pritilata Waddedar and many others.
