It is an international airport that serves the largest City in Telangana, Hyderabad. Located about 20 kilometers South of Hyderabad in Shamshabad, RGIA is operated and administered by GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd, a public–private venture. In March 2008 Rajiv Gandhi International Airport started its operations as the primary commercial airport taking over the Begumpet Airport. The Airport is equipped with many facilities such as aviation training facilities, a fuel farm, a solar power plant and two MRO facilities. RGIA has a single passenger terminal with a capacity of 12 million passengers per year. The western side of the terminal handles international flights while the eastern side is for domestic operations. The airport also has a cargo terminal and two runways. Shamshabad is well-connected to other parts of the City and private taxis, State-run Taxis, and intercity buses are available to reach to and fro the airport and to any other part of the City. The nearest MMTS Station to the airport is Hi-Tech City.
