It was renamed as Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium in 1967. Geographically located behind the police control room, between the Nizam College and Public Gardens in Hyderabad, Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium is a venue for many historical national and international sporting events. According to the historic trivia of this place, the Mughal Soldiers had camped on a vast open ground during the Golconda operation and after their victory; it was named Fateh Maidan which literally translates to ‘Victory Square’. Fateh Maidan (Now LB Stadium) has been used for various purposes in various instances over the centuries. The Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium has also hosted some historic cricket matches in the 21st Century. The Stadium has the capacity of around 25,000 people with aspects of a swimming pool, shopping complex, and an indoor stadium. Situated in the central zone of Hyderabad, it is surrounded by arterial suburbs such as Nampally, Abids, Goshamahal, and MLA Quarters. The surroundings have good eminent government structures, educational institutions and hospitals. It is also easily accessible via road and rail. Government transport services like TSRTC and MMTS connect well to the area. The nearest MMTS Station is at Nampally.
