<!--td {border: 1px solid #ccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}-->Built during the reign of Qutub Shahi Dynasty in the 16thcentury, Purana Pul is the bridge over the historic Musi River in Hyderabad to connect Golconda and Hyderabad to facilitate easy travels for Diamond and Pearl trades. Cherished as one of the oldest landmarks of Hyderabad, Purana Pul is the first bridges ever constructed in Hyderabad and one among the oldest in South India. This bridge is 600 feet long with 22 arches and 35 feet broadness and it is 54 feet above the river bed. This 450-year-old structure ought to be conserved as a heritage monument but now is defunct and this shabby stretch is turned into a flea market with local vendors selling vegetables and fish. The gateway entry to the capital city of Hyderabad, the Purana Pul has many myths revolving in connection to the purpose of construction of the bridge. As per sources, the bridge was constructed in 1578 to provide better connectivity between the capital of Qutb Shahi kingdom Golconda and Hyderabad to ease travel for trades. Although the other story according to some legends is that Prince Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah was in love with Bhagmati, a Hindu Girl who lived on the other side of Musi River, near Charminar and would cross the dangerous river to meet his beloved; hearing upon this Sultan Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah, the father of the Prince constructed the bridge to their facilitate meetings. The bridge was known as ‘Pyarana Pul’ and is even today cherished as a symbol of love: of a father for his son, of a prince for his beloved, and of a monarch for his people. There is an over 200-year-old Lord Shiva temple located at Puranapul Bridge and an old mosque called Mian Mishk Masjid. The nearest TSRTC bus stop is the High Court Bus Stop and the closest MMTS Station is at Nampally and Dabeerpura.
